Detroit Housing Commission Operations Update
October 1, 2025
Despite the federal government shutdown, the Detroit Housing Commission (DHC) expects no disruption to services for at least the next sixty days. During this period, we will continue normal operations, including:
- Housing Choice Voucher (Section 8) payments to landlords
- Public housing rent processing and resident services
- Maintenance work orders and emergency repairs
- Inspections, recertifications, and appointments already scheduled
- Vendor payments for approved invoices
We are monitoring the situation closely and coordinating with HUD and local partners. If the shutdown extends beyond this two-month window, we will share updates promptly and outline any potential changes.
What residents and landlords should do now:
- Keep all scheduled appointments.
- Pay rent and submit documents by your regular deadlines.
- Report maintenance needs through the usual channels.
- Landlords should continue to follow standard HAP contract requirements.
