Compliance & Reporting
Meeting Standards. Protecting Residents.
When a DHC property opens a waitlist for new applicants, there will be notifications in local newspapers and on the DHC website. Applications are required to be submitted through the Rent Cafe portal.
The head of household for the family will be responsible for updating any and all personal information within Rent Cafe. Keep in mind, if DHC can’t reach the head of household due to outdated information, eligibility cannot be determined and the household may be removed from the waiting list for that site.
Once a household is selected to go through the eligibility process, an email and/or letter will be sent to the household information provided in the Rent Cafe portal. Timely review and responses to those communications will ensure proper processing of the family’s application.
Upon completion and approval of the eligibility process, a housing option will be offered and a move-in date will be scheduled upon the household’s acceptance . Depending on the community, applicants may be required to get utilities put in their name, submit a security deposit and complete the move-in process by signing a lease and other forms required by DHC.
Congratulations – You are now a resident at DHC!
The lease, rules and addendums have been signed, but the process does not end there. Each year every family is required to complete an annual certification. This certification process will start 120 days in advance of the move-in anniversary date. The management team at the site will send the family written notice of the appointment date and time. During the appointment, the management team will be asked for updated information regarding:
- Income information (wages, Social Security, SSI, child support, etc).
- Asset Information (checking, savings, direct debit card, life insurance, etc.)
- Medical expense information
- Household composition changes (births, deaths, household members that moved out, etc).
It is best to be prepared for this appointment by collecting and maintaining this documentation so it can be brought to the appointment.
