Housing Choice Voucher

The Housing Choice Voucher Program (formerly Section 8) waitlist is closed. DHC is not accepting applications at this time.

DHC opens the program waiting list on an as-needed basis. Our goal is to have a viable waiting list where affordable housing opportunities can be obtained. The demand for housing assistance often exceeds the limited financial resources available to HUD and the housing commission.

When the waiting list is open, DHC will place a notice on the home page of this site, www.dhcmi.org, in the local newspapers and throughout the community various media outlets and social service providers. The public notice will provide instructions on the opening of the waiting list, when to apply, where to apply and how to apply.

Historically DHC waiting list closes with a lottery. All applications are accepted, and a lottery generates the waiting list. Applicants are notified of both results selected or not selected for the waiting list.

Current Contact Information

While your name is on the waiting list, you are responsible to inform DHC of changes to your contact information, including current residence, mailing address, phone numbers and email address. Your notification should be current and timely, within ten days of the change. The changes must be submitted in writing (form below). Failure to provide DHC with updated information may result in removal from the waiting list and loss of possible housing assistance.

Waiting list applicants are provided a confirmation number, if you have the confirmation number please include it with your information.
